A bit nerdy to admit it but I like Game of Thrones! Not the books, of course, as they’re far too long-winded, but the TV series. What fascinates me is that they don’t really seem to know how to portray women in a realistic fashion. I don’t know whether you’ve noticed, but the women in Westeros seem to fall into three categories. There are the tomboy warriors, like Brienne, Arya Stark and Asha Greyjoy who just want to prove themselves the equal of the men in the family. There are the high-born princesses, like Sansa Stark or Cersei Lannister who scheme or are schemed against in perfectly coutured gowns. Finally there are the women whose purpose seems to be simply to appear in varying stages of undress. These are usually unnamed and don’t say a word, though on the occasions they do manage to get something of character they tend to meet pretty unfortunate ends, like Shae in Season 4. So, three types that are pretty well standard male fantasy models. Where are the real women of Westeros?! I guess we’ll never find out.
Anyway…. and here’s the point of this post, the current round of the Fantasy Collective includes three outfits that mirror these three types of women. On the left is the tomboy, typified by this rough and tumble outfit from Kahli Designs. Next is the simpering princess, typified by the absolutely gorgeous outfit with transparent overskirt from Pixicat. I adore the sheen that a the fabric gives to my legs – totally wonderful. Finally there’s the woman as sex object, typified by the daring outfit from Dead Dollz on the right. Three lovely outfits!
Winter is coming! Rachel ❤️
